A belated Happy New Year

First, I'd like to wish everyone a belated Happy New Year. I didn't have the energy to blog on New Year's eve after working 3 12 hr shifts straight and frankly, it probably wouldn't have been a coherent post anyway. I have a small enough following for this blog, and the last thing I want to do is chase away the few that I do have! I was in bed by 8:30 and slept through the New Year. I was on call yesterday and did think of posting an entry but didn't get started on one for fear the phone would ring  and I'd have to head for the hospital. The phone didn't ring the entire day. No overtime yesterday(damn!) but there's still hope for Sunday!!

I have been reading a lot of blog posts and there is of course that common theme among them-"resolutions". When I spoke last year about the word "resolution" I mentioned that it kind of sounded like making demands on myself. I prefer to make myself some promises. I looked at last year's list of  promises and I think I kind of kept on track. I did and still do make wiser food choices. Most of the time. I did not get to the dentist twice and every time I floss I think to myself   "I should make an appointment for a cleaning".  I am closer to finishing my BSN. 3 more semesters (Hallelujah!). And I have not mastered the ability to dive right in to things rather than procrastinate. Maybe I don't actually procrastinate at all. Maybe I'm just easily distracted. My scraproom was a disaster for about 6 weeks while the holidays were here but now I'm getting it back into shape. I really regret that I made half of the closet for my storage and half for hanging clothes because I really could use that extra space for shelves right now!  Perhaps it is time for a purge. I doubt that's the answer. I just purged during the summer. Apparently I need more time to use my supplies. Heh, heh. Wait till I tell Bob I have to cut my hours to part time so I can scrap more often. He'll cart me off to the loony bin for sure!

My promises for 2009 are just a few. Some are home related, some are personal and some are scrap related.

1. I have to get to the gym more than 2-3 times a week. I'm shooting for 5 but I won't be disappointed at myself if some weeks its only 4.

2. I have to resist sales and impulse spending. I have had the luxury of discretionary income when the overtime at work was being offered on a daily basis. Now, not so much. I was pretty good during the holiday season and only spent a few bucks after Christmas at Barnes & Noble. It was justified spending though-a 2009 calendar and some holiday cards for next year all bought at 50% off. I walked out of there with about $70 worth of goods for about $35, plus a mocha latte and felt like I hit the mother lode!Go me!

3. I have to utilize my stash and supplies. I have oodles and oodles of stuff here. Its time to use it wisely.I need to get busy and finish some unfinished projects. I have had an album on the back burner for my friend Lisa for some time now. It's different than the album I did of Emma. This album features the best of all of her dogs. Speaking of dogs, that brings me to #4.

4. Spend time with Luke training for rally obedience. I'm really looking forward to it. He's a great dog (actually, all of Lisa's dogs are great dogs) and Lisa is a good friend and so trusting of me to work with one of her young ones.

5. Be a better blogger. For the few of you that visit regularly. I'll try to get some scrappy links added a few times a week for you. Hopefully they'll be just informational and not enabling!

6. Read more for pleasure. Sometimes I feel like my brain is turning to mush. I'm not a magazine or newspaper reader and I seldom watch a lot of tv-just Heroes on Monday nights. I started Tony Morrison's A Mercy  just before Christmas and I have yet to start reading it again.

7. Take more pictures. Of anything. They can always be deleted later. I had a little boo boo purchase through Amazon.com when I ordered a point n shoot for Kelle for Christmas. I didn't realize that I had one in my cart already so I ended up getting 2 and kept one. So no excuses. Either I have my Rebel in hand or the little point n shoot.

There is a blog that I want to leave you with today that I hope you will visit and bookmark in your favorites. It is the blog of Leah Killian who is a designer for Cosmo Cricket, Quickuts and My Scrapbook Nook Kits. She made the most beautiful Christmas mini album with Cosmo Cricket's "Oh Joy" papers. It is drop dead beautiful. She has archived the instructions with pictures for everyone to see for inspiration. Thanks Leah!
