A popourri of "stuff"

There's a few things I have to tell you. Rather than split it up into several posts with some being rather mundane, I decided to get it over with all here.

First.....

 

8 days is about all I can stand without having Starbucks. Walter came to my rescue and stopped in Falmouth when we hit the mainland on our way home from the Vineyard. I told him he was so my hero because Bob never would have deviated from his destination for something like a "latt" as he calls it! Thank you Walter! The pic is blurry because we were in the car...or maybe because I had the shakes from withdrawl.

Next, we found this cool little thing going on that wasn't going on last year in Oak Bluffs

 

A neat concept. At 7:30 PM you can go around to the back of the bakery for freshly baked warm donuts.

 

There's Maria at the back door, just like the sign says. Walter and Barbara gave the donuts rave reviews. I didn't get one, but the aroma was dreamy!

There was a really cool store in Hyannis called Del Sol. It had these t-shirts that first looked like this

Then changed to this after being exposed to the light

 

Very cool. They even gave you a canvas tote bag as a shopping bag that did the same thing. Cool store. Definitely on my list to visit when I go back in August.

A day trip to Hyannis

We took a trip to Hyannis during the week while I was on the Vineyard. I had never been on the Cape before. We started the day off right with breakfast at The Black Dog bakery.....

 

A fresh pumpkin muffin and a Nantucket Nectars iced tea.(BTW, did you know that Nantucket Nectars actually come from Long Island?!)

When we reached the mainland this little bus picked us up. When I say little, I mean it had maybe 30 seats on it. A far cry from the Beeline bus system here in Westchester!

 

Hyannis is a pretty town. I loved the lamp posts. I was amazed at how spotlessly clean the streets were.

 

Cool, aren't they? They alternated red & blue up and down the street. There was 2 things I wanted to see while in Hyannis. First was the Kennedy Museum. It was small and really only filled with photos and minimal memorabilia from JFK's campaign, but it was very nostalgic. There was a small tribute to John Jr there too. This past week marked the anniversary of his, his wife's and his sister-in-law's tragic deaths. I really loved the display case with the memorabilia. This porcelain statue was cool

 

The second reason for heading to Hyannis was because there's a great scrapbook store there. It's called Colorful Creations.

 

I didn't take pictures of the inside, but trust me when I tell you that if you go there you will not be disappointed! I picked up a few things and plan on going back again in August. Since this post is already photo heavy I'll save the pics of my scrappy buys for tomorrow. I'm looking forward to getting back there in August because the girls there said they should have some CHA releases in.

We ate lunch at a nice place called Baxter's Fish & Chips which was along the water. If you like fresh seafood like fish n chips, scallops, and shrimp then you'll love this spot. It also serves food for non fish lovers too!

I have more to share but this post is getting long and photo heavy. Personally, I love lots of photos on a person's blog, but that's just me....there will be more to follow this week. I have lots to share!

Visions of the Vineyard Part II

 

We've spent the last 2 days exploring the mainland and parts of the island I had never been to before. This was and interesting spot.

Funny looking critters, aren't they? TheIsland Alpaca Farm has 40 some odd alpacas. There was 8 babies and when we got to the main gate we were told one had been born about 30 minutes before we arrived.....not! A false alarm. They have their babes much like horses do-early in the morning when no one is around to bother them.

They did have 8 babies there that were between 6 & 8 weeks old.

 

My friend Barb wants one. I think I'd rather have a dog. At least they wag their tails and bark. Alpacas just make a little whimpery noise and.....

 

spit! It was pretty funny to see all of the little kids run away from the fence as fast as they could!

Vacation is whizzing by. 2 more days and we head home. Bummer.

Visions of the Vineyard

 

I can't get enough of the saturated rich blue of the hydrangias here on the island. My mother-in-law swears they thrive so well here because of the salt air.

We're having a great time here. My only set back is my new Tamron lens that is not working. There's a communication error between the lens and the camera. I know this because it happened to a friend a few months ago. I'm lucky that it's under warranty and I can get it taken care of when I get home. For now I had to resort back to my kit lens that came with my Rebel.....sigh.

We're headed to Hyannis tomorrow for some sight seeing and hopefully a stop at Colorful Creations!

I'll try to post some more pictures tomorrow.

My Favorite Vacation Spot

I haven't been able to blog for a bit. Work has been heavy-long days with complicated & long cases. I walked out of there last Thursday and bid good bye for 10 days! I am now on vacation! I headed to Martha's Vineyard on Saturday morning where I will be for a week for a much needed and well deserved break.
