It is a 1/6 scale model Canon camera with"interchangable" lenses. Each lens has a lens hood, including the telephoto lens, but I forgot to take it out of the bag. It's a hoot!
We went on an adventure today, or a kind of a scavenger hunt if you will. It is said that John Belushi is burried here on The Vineyard. He had a home here and loved being here. Who wouldn't? It is beautiful here! Last year my husband and my son went looking for his grave and found it. So my friends and I went on a quest to Abel's Hill Cemetary in Chilmark. We found the plot right away (my son said it was surrounded by a split rail fence).

That ern is filled with gaudy plastic flowers that had Mardis Gras beads hanging off of it. The ground in front of this stone had a cartoon scratched into it referencing the Blues Brothers. On the opposite end of the plot was another headstone
Quite gaudy and cheap considering his status as an actor. People come and leave all kinds of tokens all over it, on it, in front of it, behind it; an assortment of sea shells, beads, liquor bottles, beer bottles and someone actually left a medal they earned in a skiing competition.
Some say that his body was removed to another part of the cemetary and burried beneath an unmarked grave. The only way you can tell it is his is that it is always adorned with flowers. At any rate, we marked it off of our "to do" list for this week.

My sister Liz and my nephew Thomas hosted a bowling fundraiser last year for a program called Heeling Autism. It is a program that provides service dogs to families with children who have Autism, or have an Autism Spectrum Disorder.
On Friday night, my sister and my nephew hosted their second annual bowling fundraiser for Heeling Autism, and like last year, the turnout was incredible.
Friends and families came out in support of eachother for a fun evening and for this worthy cause.
My sister Pat lives in western Pennsylvania and was unable to join us on Friday night. She is a quilter and she donated a custom designed themed quilt for a raffle prize.
Is it not incredible? She used the official logo for the foundation and then created the remaining design.
The pictures do it no justice! It is a beautiful quilt, and I happened to sell the winning ticket!
It was such a great evening. Hats off to Liz, Thomas, my family, the merchants who donated food and prizes for the raffles, and everyone at the bowling alley who helped make this fundraiser a huge success for the second year in a row.

I know! Lots to talk about. I have been busy, thats for sure. I finished off my final project for Portrat Photography, submitted it and also showed my work to my classmates on the last day of class. It got a little stressful in the end. I had about 85 portraits and had to choose 20 of the best ones to submit for my portfolio. During that time I also had a print made of another photo, matted it, framed it, submitted it to the student art show and ended up with one of the "coveted red dots" next to my name
and that red dot means my photo is going to be on display in a public gallery(exclusive to the students chosen from the show) at Calumet Photo in Manhattan for 2 weeks this summer! I am totally stoked! This is a great way for many, many people to see your work and possibly buy it. Wow.....just wow. Someone pinch me, please!
I tried a new company for photo prints last week. I'm sure many of you have heard of mpix. I have too, but I had never thought of using them to print my personal 4"x6" or 5"x7" photos that I use for scrapping. My final project for class was a portfolio of portraits of the members of a pipe & drum band. Yep, bagpipes and kilts. As a thank you for posing for me I offered each of them an 8"x10" print of their choice that they can choose from a private gallery I have. I was extremely pleased with the trial run with mpix and will use them for portraits from now on.
I got away for a 12 hr crop a couple of Saturdays ago. It was a different group of people than my usual crew. I got a lot done, probably because I sat with 2 people I didn't know.

I love Janine's work. I modified these 2 layouts a little too. She had some odd dimensions for the photo mats, so I cut them to make it easier to add photos later.
I think I forgot to show this project I worked on at a weekend crop in January...or maybe it was March. I had a few used Starbucks gift cards in my wallet, and rather than reload them or throw them away, I decided to use them in some kind of craft. So I pulled out my Bind-it-all which hasn't seen the light of day in probably 2 years.
I had asked one of the girls at my favorite Starbucks store save me some used gift cards that customers gave up. Lily is a gem! She must have saved 20 cards for me in 2 days.
So I made a mini memo pad.
This was just a trial run to see how it looks. I have to use copy paper for them because the cardstock is just too thick and you wouldn't be able to tear it from the pad if you needed to. I used a gift card on both sides. This one has the same gift card on the front and the back.I'll be working on these from time to time and giving them to friends and family.
I got an email a couple of weeks ago from The Button Farm inviting me to join their kit club. I waivered back and forth because I already belong to Cocoa Daisy and I was having a hard time justifying the expense of a second kit club. So after a couple of weeks I decided to take a 6 month subscription with The Button Farm and I will stop my Cocoa Daisy subscription for that period of time. I know I would much rather have the paper kits in the long run, but I really wanted to try The Button Farm club. I have always loved Angela's work and love the end result of her creations. My first kit arrived on Wednesday

I am saving it for another crop, and that will be either in June or July. I'm looking forward to playing with it.
I am slowly gathering my supplies and clothes I need for my Tanzania trip in August. I sent off my visa application and got my seat assigned for the plane ride. I still have to get my second set of travel shots in June and a couple of prescriptions and I am all set to go. I am so looking forward to this trip!

Work, work, work....what else is new? It really gets in the way of our fun sometimes, doesn't it? I have also been working on my final project for my Portrait Photography class. I am looking forward to turning it in.
I am away this weekend and have been creating all kinds of great things. I have 2 Basic Grey layouts to share. Both were designed by Kelly Goree. I really love her work!
These kits are part of a monthly kit club from Basic Grey. They are so convenient. They take all of the guess work and indecision away, which is totally worth it for me given my current life/work/demands.
I have to admit that I also purchased 3 more kits from Janine at The Scrapbook Diaries. My LSS, (although they are not really an LSS any longer but still run crop weekends) consigns her kits. You are never disappointed in what Janine designs for you.
The most important project I have been working on this weekend is the travel journal for my Tanzania trip in August. I am using Cocoa Daisy's kit designed by Ali Edwards. I am really on a roll with it and have it pretty much completed for now. I know I will add more pages for photos and of course probably some journaling too, but at least when I get back I can sit down with all of my temporary notes and create my book.
I had downloaded the trip itinerary as well as Ali's instructions in order to help me plan how I wanted this journal to be.
I know this journal will be twice as thick as it is now, but at least here is a start. I used 1 1/2" binder rings here, but I have 2" binder rings just in case I need them. This is actually the last page of the journal, and the first page is the portion of the transparancy with Africa on it. Ali used the same transparancy for her Greece travel journal and I thought it was a great idea.
I have a couple of more projects to do and only a couple of more hours left to this crop. I hope to show you more this week.

I am away for the weekend with lots of stuff on my creative agenda; completion of layouts, creation of new layouts and creation and assembly of my Scrapbook on The Road project.
I started off a little rocky yesterday afternoon. I realized when I got here that I left my tool tote and my trimmer behind at home, and I live about 45 minutes away from where the crop is in Danbury. I tried to bribe both of my sons with gas money to bring the stuff to me but they wouldn't take the bait. Interesting,because money usually always talks with those two!I called my husband so he could get everything together for my friend Barbara to pick up on her way today and he actually asked,"what's wrong with you?" I laughed and said, "I'm one hot mess!". He knows I always make a "to do" list before I go away. Apparently I shouldn't deviate from that routine. Its all good though. I borrowed a trimmer and a pair of scissors from 2 people (thank god we all know eachother, and thanks to Ruth and Julie for helping my out) and then had to buy 2 monoadhesives.....to the tune of $6.99 each. Ugh, that hurt. I usually buy Tombo refills in bulk from Ruth for $2.00 each!
At any rate, I finally settled down to get to work at about 4 or so and tackled completing 2 layouts that needed photographs. Easy peasy..
This was a Basic Grey kit from the kit club in 2010. I wasn't crazy about it when I made it and I'm still not now. Maybe its the photos? Maybe its the lack of embellies? Maybe I expected more since it costs a significant amount of money per layout each month?
This layout is a design from The Scrapbook Diaries . Janine does beautiful, detailed work and I am always pleased with the finished projects she designs.
This layout is also from the Basic Grey kit club 2010. It was originally a travel theme designed by Greta Hammond. She had created a 2 page layout about visiting Chicago, but I modified it a little to tell a story about a trip to the Stride Rite shoe store. I think the Wander collection worked out ok for this.
Next on my list is my Scrapbook on The Road project. I am looking forward to getting this done and ready for my trip to Tanzania in August.

Happy day! My Ali Edwards kit "Scrapbook on The Road" came, along with my March Kit from Cocoa Daisy! I know that the kit is sold out, but if anyone wants to purchase separate supplies, here is the list of what is in the kit. I read on 2peas that someone contacted Cocoa Daisy and they said if there was enough interest they may post the kit for sale again. So, if you are interested, contact Cocoa Daisy and let them know.
It is stocked full of great product. It has great papers, a couple of transparancies and a 12"x12" piece of chipboard

The white paper with the grey strips in the center is actually journaling strips. The page didn't photograph well no matter how I took the shot.
What I am most excited about is the fact that I have my itinerary for the trip so I can assemble this book well before August. We will be in Tanzania from the 14th of August until the 23rd. Each day of the itinerary has a description of where we will be going and what we will be doing. How easy does that make it for me?! I think my only dilema will be which pictures to put into the book when I return from the trip!

This issue has cardmaps in it too. I am not much of a cardmaker anymore, but there was some nice examples. One of my all time favorite designers Kelly Goree is featured several times in the book. Love her work!
This has been sitting on top of our Media Unit since Saturday.
And my husband couldn't understand why I didn't want to open it until today.....because Saturday was not my birthday, today is, so there is sits until my family joins me for dinner tonight; for spaghetti and meatballs...my favorite. I made the sauce and meatballs though, because I make them better.

That about sums it up here.....work, work and more work. I am not a fan of the 10 hr shifts management has inflicted us with. I loved my 12 hr shifts. I worked only 3 days a week and had so much time for myself. Totally not the case any more. I am finding it hard to find time to start to work on my long term/final project for my photography class. I at least have my subjects chosen, but now I need to schedule them for shoots, which is not an easy task.
I am also getting ready for my Tanzania trip. I started my travel shots 2 weeks ago, paid for my trip, filled out my visa application and started to make a packing list based on the "suggested" packing list from my professor.
Scored big with a tripod! I am lucky because it retails for about $278 and I got it for less than half of that!
I received an Amex gift card for Christmas and got this backpack/camera bag . Love it! My next quest is for either 2 more batteries for my 50D or a grip and one more battery. I have 2 batteries and a grip for my Rebel. I plan on taking both cameras and setting each of them up with a telephoto lens.
There is a lot of specific preparation and care of your equipment for the photography portion of the trip. The biggest problem is the dust and protecting your equipment, most important being your cameras and lenses.
I have also been thinking about how I want to document this trip. I will keep a journal for sure, but I also want to create some type of album as a keepsake. I got an email from Cocoa Daisy that said they have a bonus kit in March that features Ali Edwards' Scrapbook on The Road. I looked over the kit's contents and I think it will be perfect for documenting my trip.
Speaking of kits, I received the February kit from Cocoa Daisy and I have to say that I am kind of at a loss with what to do with some of the papers. I think this is the first time I have ever opened a kit and not had immediate inspiration when seeing it. Here is a couple of pictures of the contents
This is a screen printed canvas from Prima. Honestly, I have no clue what I am going to do with it right now.
I do like several of the papers, but the embellishments were scant this month, and I am not sure why
I'm not too worried. I'm sure I can use a lot of this.....when the inspiration comes. I'll have to keep stalking the 2peas and Cocoa Daisy galleries.

I have an idea for a project using these used up gift cards. I'll be posting the how-to here while I am away for my crop weekend. And no, these are not my expired cards, although I know that thought had jumped into several peoples' minds when they saw this photo! The staff at my favorite Starbucks saved them for me. They are the best!
I am playing with some lighting techniques in class and using strobes and soft boxes. One of my classmates has a go-go attitude and will try anything to see if it will work. Its been fun. Not that I will ever remember half of what we've experimented with, but hey, you have to take the plunge if you want to learn.
